One of the hardest parts of building in the beauty industry is how isolating it can feel in the beginning.
You’re learning in real time.
Trying to figure things out as you go.
Balancing creativity, clients, finances, and growth, often without much guidance beyond what was briefly covered in school.
And while independence is valuable, trying to build everything alone can slow your growth more than you realize.
The Pressure to Figure It Out Alone
There’s an unspoken expectation in entrepreneurship that you should already know what you’re doing.
That once you become licensed, you’re supposed to immediately understand:
- Client retention
- Pricing
- Marketing
- Boundaries
- Growth strategy
- Longevity in the industry
But most professionals are never fully taught those things.
So many people enter the beauty industry talented, but unsupported.
And talent without guidance can become frustration quickly.
What Guidance Changes
Looking back, there are things I know now that would have changed so much for me earlier in my career.
Not because I wasn’t capable.
But because experience shortens the learning curve.
Sometimes one conversation can save you:
- Months of confusion
- Costly mistakes
- Burnout
- Undervaluing yourself
Guidance brings perspective.
And perspective changes how you move.
Mentorship Is More Than Advice
Real mentorship is not just someone telling you what to do.
It’s accountability.
Structure.
Honest conversations.
Someone helping you see what you may not recognize on your own.
A good mentor helps you:
- Build confidence
- Develop strategy
- Strengthen your decision-making
- Think long-term instead of only short-term
And that kind of support matters.
Growth Happens Faster in Community
The beauty industry was never meant to be navigated completely alone.
Some of the biggest shifts in your career happen through:
- Learning from others
- Being in the right rooms
- Asking better questions
- Receiving guidance from people who have already experienced what you’re walking through
Community accelerates growth.
Not because it removes the work.
But because it helps you move through the work more intentionally.
This Season
One thing this season has reminded me is how important support really is.
No meaningful growth happens entirely alone.
Behind every visible moment are conversations, lessons, relationships, and people who helped sharpen your perspective along the way.
And that’s something I’ll never overlook.
Why I Teach and Mentor
Part of why I’m passionate about teaching and mentorship is because I understand what it feels like to need guidance while trying to build something meaningful.
I know what it feels like to:
- Want more for your career
- Feel capable but unsure where to start
- Need structure, strategy, and support
And I also know how powerful growth can become when you stop trying to carry everything alone.
If you’ve been trying to figure everything out by yourself, let this be your reminder:
You don’t have to do this alone.
There is strength in learning.
Strength in asking questions.
Strength in allowing yourself to be supported while you grow.
And sometimes the right guidance changes everything.
