How I Launched My Own Cosmetics Line While Working Full-Time

How I Launched My Own Cosmetics Line While Working Full-Time

Let me tell you a secret: I didn’t have it all figured out when I launched Beautifully Broken Kosmetics.
I was working full-time, raising a child, teaching classes, and trying to keep my business — and myself — from burning out.

But I knew one thing for sure: I wanted to create something that lasted.
Something bold, clean, and real. Something that reflected the kind of beauty I believe in — not just what’s trending.

So I built it. One product, one post, one prayer at a time.

If you’ve been dreaming of launching your own cosmetic line but don’t know where to start, this post is for you. Let’s talk about how I did it — and how you can, too.

💄 Why I Started My Own Makeup Line

I was tired of recommending products that didn’t match my values or my clients’ needs:

  • Full of harsh chemicals

  • No representation for deeper skin tones

  • Drying, chalky, overpriced formulas

Beautifully Broken Kosmetics was born from a mission to create vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free products that deliver high-impact glam without compromising skin health — or integrity.

I wanted:

  • Bold color that actually shows up on melanin-rich skin

  • Clean ingredients that feel good on your skin

  • A brand that represents healing, empowerment, and real beauty

⏰ How I Made It Happen While Working Full-Time

1. I Started With Just a Few Signature Products
I didn’t launch a full line all at once. I started with my best-selling lip scrub, lip conditioner, and signature lip colors— small but powerful products that reflected my love for glam and skin health.

2. I Used Drop-Shipping
To avoid the stress of storing inventory, I used a drop-shipping model that allowed me to sell products online without handling every order myself. It gave me time and freedom to focus on branding and marketing.

3. I Worked a Full-Time Job to Fund My Dream
I was a full-time beauty school educator, pouring into the next generation of estheticians during the day — and building BBK at night.
In 2024, I rebranded and gave my line a deeper meaning.

“Things in life may break you, but broken things are still beautiful.”
That message wasn’t just branding. It was my truth.

4. I Was the Face of My Brand
People didn’t just fall in love with the products — they connected to me.
I was a single mom with a child who had sensitive skin. I knew the struggle of wanting quality, affordable, clean beauty. I shared my story, and women saw themselves in it.

5. I Gave Myself Grace
Some days were messy. Some launches didn’t go as planned. But I reminded myself: You’re building something bigger. Keep going.
Grace was just as important as grit.

🛍️ What I Wish I Knew Before I Started

  • You don’t need to launch 20 products — start with your signature.

  • Your story is your strategy. People buy into connection.

  • You don’t need fancy equipment, a warehouse, or a viral video. Just heart and consistency.

  • It’s okay to grow slow and steady — as long as you grow.
